Kay Wheeler's Elvis CD

SAN FRANCISCO, CA' - AUGUST 2, 2002 -- Original Elvis Presley Fan Club founder, Kay Wheeler, has released an audio CD personally narrating her account of her personal 1950s memories of Elvis' which reveals new information on Elvis including a rare interview with Gladys Presley, Elvis' mother. Elvis Presley Enterprises released "The Elvis Box'" a collectible product containing reproductions of the 19 significant artifacts of Elvis Presley's life. Kay Wheeler's "Nation's First & Largest Elvis Presley Fan Club" card was the first item presented.

San Francisco DJ, Jose Segue said in his review of "Kay Wheeler's Personal Memories of Elvis" CD: "Kay's voiceovers on various Elvis music tracks are a fan's recollections from a time before fan appreciation became a commodity, or for that matter, before Elvis became a commodity. More than a time capsule, this CD is a window back in time where we see Elvis, the first star of his kind, through a fan's eyes, especially eyes that were as close as Kay's were to Elvis'".

Kay said that she felt the need to share her experiences as an original fan of Elvis because, "For over 45 years, the screams, cries and tributes of the fans of Elvis Presley have not been heard in the media. There's been no definitive voice representing the faceless fans that went to his concerts, bought millions of his records, saw his movies; and who have been the targets of an unsurpassed merchandizing mania!."

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation filmed a documentary on Kay Wheeler and the Elvis Phenomena which will be aired on August 15, 2002 in Australia and Southeast Asia.

Kay Wheeler feels that her personal memories of Elvis recording has given a voice to these countless unheard fans of Elvis. Initial reactions from the Elvis fan club circuit worldwide include such comments as, "...Kay Wheeler's CD tribute to Elvis was absolutely incredible. It brought tears to my soul; I could feel every moment of it." (Charmaine Voisine, Canada Elvis Fan Club). "We listened to this fantastic recording by Kay Wheeler and enjoyed every word - brilliantly told!." (Maurice Colgan, Ireland Elvis Fan Club).

In 1955, when Elvis Presley was still a regional singer hoping for his big break. Kay, a young teenager in Dallas, Texas, listened to Elvis' Sun records on late night radio. She was knocked out by Elvis' music! She became his first fan club president and met him on several occasions while he was touring Texas and Louisiana; many rare details of this period are included in Kay's CD.

Her fan club went international, and she became a voice for the fans in national movie and fan magazines. Kay Wheeler was a movie star in her own right, starring in the rock and roll classic "Rock Baby Rock It". She also appeared in the teen flick "Hot Rod Gang" with rock legend Gene Vincent. Today, Kay is still well-known and makes appearances at VIVA LAS VEGAS annual Rockabilly event in Las Vegas. In June, 2002, she was a headliner at the Professional Entertainers International Association Convention in Las Vegas where she demonstrated the "Presley Bop" on stage and shared her memories of Elvis with an enthusiastic audience. In 1997, she was inducted into "The Rockabilly Hall of Fame". Her autobiographical book, "Growing up with the Memphis Flash", was published in Europe and there are plans underway for a movie that covers the story of Kay's life as a rebel girl, teen leader in the 50s during the scandalous birth of rock and roll and the launch of Elvis the Pelvis!
